Can’t say anything about durability, just received the APLS sneakers. They use radical transparency. Thumbs up for that.

A sneaker for which no natural raw materials needed to be harvested and which is entirely made of recycled and reused materials. Without compromising on comfort or design.
Officially PETA-approved. Designed in Belgium, and carefully produced in Portugal (EU).
Upper: vegan apple leather. Apple leather is made of apple waste (peels & cores). An ecological and vegan alternative to leather. 55% apple waste, 40% synthetic resin, 5% PU.
Sole: 100% recycled rubber.
Lining & Laces: recycled cotton & plastic bottles.
Insole: removable insole made from flexible recycled carbon. Carbon is a plant-based supermaterial that has absorbing properties.

Apple skin is a leather substitute and, as it sounds, is made with scraps left over from the food industry, composed of a minimum of 50% apple skin and core waste. 

With this innovative fabric, you can give food scraps a new life, and in doing so you save resources and energy. 
Apple Skin uses vegan tanning processes, where few toxic chemicals are used. 

In the composition, there is also PU, a plastic material. Wait, isn’t plastic a bad thing? Currently, it is necessary to make apple skin leather a durable material that will last for ages even with frequent usage. 

When you choose substitutes like apple skin, you are totally taking part in the advancement of technologies for bio-based materials like it.

This product contains apple skin leather, a material made with a natural leather alternative by apple skin and core waste. Apart from being extremely environmentally friendly, it is breathable thanks to it's organic composition, and water resistant. 

Recycled cotton is re-purposed, post-industrial or post-consumer cotton that would otherwise become waste. For example, imagine a factory that cuts patterns for clothing out of big sheets of fabric and has all the in-between pieces to discard. The scraps of such cut and sew facilities are post-industrial cotton “waste” that have the capacity to be recycled. Post consumer waste is material discarded after someone uses it. 

Recycled cotton’s production process saves resources and energy to create, because their raw material already exists! It gives discarded cotton a purpose, keeping material in the loop for longer, contributing to circular fashion.

Recycled cotton comes from the soft and fluffy part of the cotton plant. It is a lightweight material that is durable, making it a wardrobe staple, and can last in your closet for years to come.

Recycled cotton can be recycled again and again, creating a new recycled cotton clothing. It is also a bio-based material, making it biodegradable, so it can fully decompose when it has grown too old to be recycled again.

Komrads OCNS Pacific Low | Black Chestnut

The Komrads ICNS have a history that goes way back. The sneaker was first made around the fifties in the Sovjet Union in response to the American basketball trainer, Converse All Stars. The Komrads ICNS symbolised the ‘comrade of the people’. In the 80’s and 90’s they already dominated the streets and many rock festivals.
Next step: making the ICNS fully sustainable!
Of course the cool design of the ICNS has been retained! New is the sole made of 100% recycled rubber, the fabric is 100% recycled cotton and PET bottles, as well as the laces. No more metal rings and the insole is removable and made of recycled carbon (Arnetech insole). Production has also been moved from Slovakia to Portugal, where sustainable production and the best working conditions are guaranteed.
